Aly De Groot (These workshops have been cancelled)

Aly is a visual artist from Darwin who takes the traditions of basket-making and weaving ‘then drags them kicking and screaming into strange new places’ (Art Nation, ABC TV, March, 2011).

As an Australian contemporary fibre artist and recipient of a Charles Darwin University PhD Post Graduate Scholarship, Aly is focusing on environmental and social issues in regards to fibre art and basketry.

Aly values the inspiration and knowledge gained and exchanged through formulating ideas and projects which can inspire and educate people, using readily available materials that may otherwise be a pest or environmental threat.
