Liz Powell
Liz Powell is a mixed media fibre artist who uses
her handmade paper as the basis of her work. She studied sculpture
and print making at the National Art School and became addicted to
paper making in a workshop with Kathy Nix.
She has been a practicing and exhibiting artist for over twenty
years and has taught a range of art practices at secondary and
tertiary levels, including tutoring at Textile Fibre Forums in
Victoria, NSW and Queensland.
Her work explores the versatility of plant fibre papers she makes
from her local environment as well as imported fibre bases. Liz is
known for her quirky and eclectic approach to materials and themes
and has mounted two solo exhibitions in the last year, in Brisbane
and on the Far North Coast of NSW, where she lives.
She has regularly exhibited in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne and
is a member of the Papermakers of Victoria. She has been published
in Textile Fibre Forum magazine, and ‘Textiles Anyone’.
